power supply overview

The power supplies in this range generate all the dynode potentials directly, eliminating the need for voltage divider networks. Power consumption can be as low as 50mW compared with 1W for a modular power supply with resistive divider. The sleep mode feature on all Power Base supplies provides further energy saving. The output voltage can be disabled by grounding the control line, thereby reducing the power consumption.

We recommend our Power Base supplies for the following:

  • battery operated equipment
  • where space is restricted
  • where heating due to power dissipation is unacceptable
  • to avoid the use of dc HV cables or connectors (safety consideration)

We take full advantage of the compact size of our Power Base supplies and have incorporated factory fitted versions into our range of photomultiplier housings and assemblies

features
  • dc input +5 or +12V
  • output voltage range up to ±1800 V
  • high voltage outputs terminate in a socket appropriate to the photomultiplier type used
  • extremely low power consumption
  • sleep mode facility
  • three modes of output programming
  • short circuit protection
  • output voltage monitoring point
  • optional flange mounting
programming options

For all power supplies in this range, output voltage can be controlled by:

  1. application of a low voltage to the external control input
  2. manually adjustable internal potentiometer
  3. some power supplies also have the facility for a remotely located external potentiometer

All power supplies shown in the outline drawings can have an optional mounting flange. Please specify if you require a flange at the time of ordering.

modular power supplies

This range of compact, modular, dc to dc power supplies is recommended where cost and space restrictions are important. The range has been designed with the needs of instrument manufacturers in mind.

Provision is made in the PS2001 and the PS3000 for continuous monitoring of output voltage and current.

A coaxial high voltage power lead, type RG174, is used in the PS2001 and PS3000. The lead can be fitted with a connector to your required specifications.

features
  • output voltage range up to 3000 V
  • positive and negative versions available
  • choice of 5, 12 or 24V input, depending on product
  • internally or externally programmable
  • excellent line load regulation
  • input and output protection
  • output voltage and current monitoring
  • customised lead/connector option
  • low ripple and fully screened
programming options

specification and product range

The PS1000 is a pcb mounting 24V input supply. This unit will deliver up to 2W of regulated power at maximum voltage. For ease of operation, a precision reference is provided (10.00V) for use with an external voltage control potentiometer.

The PS1820 and PS1821 are ultra compact power supplies for pcb mounting. They are available in positive or negative HV versions, and are intended for powering a single photomultiplier. Input supply is +5V.

The PS2001 is available for either 12 or 24V input with a fully adjustable output from 0V to 2000V using any of the three control modes. A special feature is the precision 1000:1 output voltage monitor point. The PS2001 replaces the Sens-Tech PS2000 range.

The PS3000 operates from a dc supply of 24V. The output voltage may be varied from 0V up to a maximum of 3000V using any of the three control modes. For ease of operation, a precision reference is provided for use with an external voltage control potentiometer. The PS3000 replaces the Sens-Tech PS2500 range.

bench top power supplies

Bench Top power supplies are recommended for research and laboratory use. They offer flexibility in terms of voltage range and output polarity. These are stand-alone units which all feature an output voltage display.

The PM20D and PM30D dual output supplies include a 4 digit LCD read out and low voltage (+-5V and +-12V) supplies. Lower cost versions, PM20S and PM30S offering only single polarity output are also available. All supplies in this range accept ac or dc input - referred to as universal supply input.

features
  • mains input
  • output range up to 3000V
  • low ripple
  • positive or negative HV
  • overload protected
  • clear display of output voltage
  • multi-turn set dial
specifications

These power supplies provide high voltage output ranging up to 2000V or 3000V depending on the type.

The PM20D and PM30D are dual power supplies, providing + and - output. Lower cost, single output polarity versions are also available to the same specification.

custom made power supplies

Sens-Tech designs and manufactures precision high voltage power supplies which are used in a range of industrial, medical and research applications.

Where a standard power supply will not satisfy your requirements, Sens-Tech can modify an existing product or provide you with a new design, either as a stand-alone unit or part of proprietary circuitry.
